The two brains below are from two 57 year old deceased men. The brain on the right was from a man who drank 625 gallons of alcohol in his lifetime.  The brain on the left was from a man who consumed only 20 gallons in his lifetime.

The damaged brain on the right is shriveled with obvious loss of mass. The person must have had mental impairment as a result of the alcohol damaged brain.

The brain on the left was not exposed to excessive amounts of alcohol. It's not shriveled up. It has body and appears healthy.
